Getting Prepared for Your Time Away at WinShape

We’re overjoyed you and your spouse have chosen to attend a WinShape Marriage Retreat or Romantic Adventure! What a wonderful weekend to look forward to. There are countless wins for your marriage when you step away to focus on the one you love.

Your weekend getaway gives you and your spouse a physical place to free yourselves from daily distractions you encounter. We all need a day (or two) to unwind from our day-to-day stressors. You’ll have many chances to connect with other couples who are walking through similar marriage seasons, reminding you you’re not alone in this marriage journey. And, you’ll be able to nurture the spiritual and emotional aspects of your relationship. Not only will you have the chance to reconnect with each other during the weekend, you’ll leave with tangible tools to reference for years to come.

We can’t wait to welcome you! Here’s a few tips to help you prepare for your upcoming Marriage Retreat.

1. Jot down your thoughts.

You’ll receive a journal at the beginning of your experience; however, now is a great time to start thinking about and writing down your hopes for the weekend. What is one thing you desire to receive out of your time? Write down your prayers. Ask the Lord to begin preparing you and your spouse’s hearts to receive what He would have for you. Whether you’re attending a Marriage Retreat about communication, sex and intimacy, or parenting, write down questions you’d like to have answered. This way, you won’t forget them, and you also won’t dwell on them. You’ll have them written down for reference when the weekend arrives.

2. Talk about your expectations, and get excited!

Whether you’ve been to a WinShape Marriage Retreat before, or this will be your first time, discuss your expectations for the weekend. You don’t have to set anything in stone, but it would be helpful to talk a bit about what you’d like to get out of the weekend. For example—do you want to spend more time resting, hanging in a hammock, reading, etc., or are you looking for an active weekend where you’ll go on a long hike or bike ride, get up and watch the sunrise, play disc golf, etc.? Then while you wait, get excited for your all-inclusive weekend together! You won’t lift a finger during your stay. You’ll eat delicious food at every turn, rest, try new things, learn, laugh, and be in community with others…there are so many things to look forward to about your time at WinShape.

3. Ask questions.

Of course, if you have any questions about your reservation or retreat experience, you can always email us at wsm@winshape.org. We’re eager to help make your experience everything youre hoping for.
