A Spring Date Challenge for You and Your Spouse

Spring has sprung! Many use the changing of a season as an opportunity to reflect on and even rejuvenate aspects of their lives. Spring cleaning sound familiar? But have you considered using this time to refresh or add to your running list of date ideas? If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut, we challenge you to embrace the warmer weather and lively springtime environment and try something new! Here are seven spring date ideas you can do with your sweetie.

1. Plan a Picnic in the Park

Arrange the perfect day at the park. Prepare lunch featuring all your favorite foods, drinks, and desserts. Consider activities you could do together at the park like flying a kite, throwing a frisbee, reading a book to each other, or playing your favorite card game. You may want to just relax and take a nap. Either way, enjoy a meal and have fun at your own private picnic. Go above and beyond by using a picnic basket and blanket to set the scene.

2. Enjoy a Cozy Night Campout

Keep an eye on the weather and when you spy clear skies, set up a backyard campout. Pitch a tent and fill it with cozy blankets and pillows. For dinner, roast hotdogs over a campfire and don’t forget to have s’mores for dessert. Then, snuggle up and enjoy quiet, uninterrupted together. End the evening stargazing.

3. Spend a Morning at the Farmer’s Market

Enjoy a slow Saturday morning at your local farmer’s market. Pick up fresh flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Hanging out with no agenda is a great way to rejuvenate your spirit and your relationship. That evening, use some of the food you bought to cook a nice dinner together. And you’ll already have a centerpiece for your table, too!

4. Stroll Through the Garden

April showers bring May flowers, right? If you don’t like planting flowers, but you enjoy observing them, plan a date to gardens in your area. Eliminate the noise from your day-to-day life while enjoying a peaceful stroll together through the beautiful gardens.

5. Celebrate Easter the Old-fashioned Way

When’s the last time you participated in an Easter egg hunt? We’re guessing it’s been a while. This year, plan an adult Easter egg hunt with your spouse. Fill plastic eggs with each other’s favorite candy and hide them in your yard—someone takes the front yard and the other takes the backyard. Race to find all your eggs and make sure there’s a prize on the table for the winner!

6. Participate in a Progressive Dinner

How often do you and your spouse enjoy a dinner date? It’s probably your go-to date idea, so for this dinner date night, switch it up and do a progressive dinner. Plan to spend a little more time out since you’ll be enjoying each part of your meal somewhere new. Pick one restaurant to order appetizers, another to eat your entrées, and still another to get dessert. Tip—where you can, ask to sit on the patio, so you can enjoy the perks of springtime—warm weather and birds chirping.

7. Become a Kid Again

Adulting can be boring—we get it! Channel your inner kid and enjoy an afternoon or evening of playing together. Go for a leisurely bike ride around your neighborhood or local park. Then, drink glasses of lemonade while you draw with sidewalk chalk, blow bubbles, or hula-hoop. Play isn’t just for kids; it’s great for your marriage, so head outside for some fun!

Spending quality time with your spouse energizes your relationship. If you’ve been together awhile, it can be easy to resort to the same old, same old date ideas. This spring, switch it up and use one of the ideas above to plan a unique date for the two of you.
